Caran Cress Mattis received her B.A. from Bucknell University in 1986. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa, Magna Cum Laude, with degrees in History and Psychology. She received her J.D. from Dickinson School of Law in 1989 and was admitted to bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania that same year. She was admitted to bar of United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania in 1990.  Upon graduation from law school she served as a Judicial Law Clerk for the Honorable Samuel C. Ranck, President Judge of the Northumberland County Court of Common Pleas.  She has been in private practice since 1991.

Caran Cress Mattis is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association including its Family Law Section and Elder Law Section. She is also a member of the Northumberland County Bar Association and the American Association of Nurse Attorneys. From 2004 to 2008, she served as Guardian ad litem for children in dependency proceedings brought by Northumberland County Children and Youth Services. Caran served as President of the Northumberland County Bar Association in 2022.

Caran Cress Mattis received her R.N. diploma from Geisinger Medical Center School of Nursing in Danville, Pennsylvania in 1976.  She previously worked as an orthopedic and operating room nurse at Geisinger Medical Center. She maintains her RN license in Pennsylvania by attending Continuing Medical Education classes.

H. Robert Mattis, Jr. received his A.B. from Franklin & Marshall College in 1972 and his J.D. from New York University School of Law in 1975. He was admitted to bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania in 1975 and to bar of United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania in 1977. Upon graduation from law school he served as Judicial Law Clerk for the President Judge of the Northumberland County Court of Common Pleas and has been in private practice since 1979.

H. Robert Mattis, Jr. is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association including its Family Law Section, Real Property and Probate Law Section, and Buisiness Law Section. He also is a member of the Northumberland County Bar Association and served as its President in 2007.

He is active in community affairs and served as President of the Board of Trustees of the Shamokin State General Hospital. In 1992, he was conferred an Honorary Life Membership in the Pennsylvania Congress of Parents and Teachers in recognition of his volunteer legal services on behalf of local PTA units.  He served as the Solicitor for the City of Shamokin from 2008-2013.
